What is CO2 Laser Resurfacing?
This advanced laser therapy utilizes fractional resurfacing, a method that targets one section of treatment areas at a time rather than removing the entire skin surface. At Plateroti Dermatology, we use the Cortex™ YAG Erbium and CO2 lasers for either superficial or deeper resurfacing, depending on your individual condition.

How Does CO2 Laser Resurfacing Work?
While conventional laser resurfacing methods remove the entire skin surface of treated areas, CO2 laser resurfacing utilizes fractionated energy that creates microchannels in the skin. As columns of treated skin are removed, healthy, surrounding skin is left intact, which aids in the healing process and faster results. When the laser energy is absorbed by the deeper dermal layers, it is converted to heat, which stimulates the production of natural collagen and elastin to restore structure and flexibility to the skin over time. The dual wavelengths of the Cortex™ are able to target patient-specific conditions, making this an effective solution for a wide range of patients.
Is There Any Downtime?
While CO2 laser resurfacing with the Cortex™ system may result in four to seven days of redness and flushing in treated areas, this is a good indicator that the healing process has begun, and most patients are able to return to work and normal activities quickly.
