Am I a Candidate for BOTOX?

Are you developing wrinkles at a younger age than you expected? Or are your wrinkles concentrated in certain parts of the face like between the eyes or around the corners of the mouth? If so, you could be a candidate for BOTOX® injections.

Plateroi Dermatology, which is based in Templeton, California, provides a wide array of dermatological services, including BOTOX® injections. Our head dermatologist, Dr. Carmelo Plateroi, has over 20 years’ experience in treating various skin conditions.

What is BOTOX®?

BOTOX® is an injectable treatment used to smooth wrinkles that develop between the brows or at the corners of the eyes. We also use it to treat moderate to severe frown lines, forehead lines, chin dimples, and vertical lip lines.

BOTOX® is extraordinarily popular; it is the top-selling injectable of its kind in the world, and it is also the most studied. This unique injectable has been used to treat a variety of conditions for nearly two decades, and it is used in 78 countries.

How does BOTOX® work?

Many wrinkle treatments are dermal fillers that increase collagen and the skin’s volume. BOTOX®, by contrast, is a muscle relaxant. Wrinkles are caused not just by decreased skin volume but also by the repeated contractions of certain facial muscles. Relaxing those muscles, therefore, reduces wrinkles.

The injections are derived from a substance that can temporarily relax the muscles and smooth away the wrinkles. A single treatment can keep muscles relaxed for at least four months.

What does the treatment involve?

A typical session takes only ten minutes, and the effects become apparent within a few days to a week. The results last for four to six months, so our clients will only need to get subsequent treatments two or three times a year. They will not need any recovery time, so they can immediately resume their normal schedule after treatment.

Who is a good candidate for a BOTOX® injection?

The ideal candidate will be a patient in good overall health with realistic expectations. The FDA has approved the use of BOTOX® for people between 18 and 65. In addition, good candidates will have wrinkles on the face such as crow’s feet and forehead lines that they would like to treat.
