Who Qualifies for Eyelid Surgery?

Eyelid surgery, which is also referred to as blepharoplasty, is a procedure that can help individuals look younger and enhance the appearance of their eyelids. There are many individuals who choose to have the procedure to remove bags in the lower eyelids. Not only can it help individuals achieve a younger look, but eyelid surgery can also help those who have medical conditions that prevent their eyelids from functioning normally.

Who are Ideal Candidates for Eyelid Surgery?

Those who want eyelid surgery should be in generally good health. Good candidates will also have realistic goals and a positive outlook about the results. At your consultation, Dr. Scott will sit with you to review your medical history and determine your eligibility for this procedure.

What are My Options?

At our office you can opt to have a lower blepharoplasty (performed on the lower eyelid) or an upper blepharoplasty (performed on the upper eyelid.) These procedures can be undergone separately or together for a thorough and dramatic rejuvenative result.

What is the Procedure Like?

Your doctor can provide you local anesthesia to ensure your comfort throughout the procedure. During the procedure, openings are made just below the lash line of the lower lid or along the natural creases of the upper. The surgeon will remove excess fat and skin, proceeding to seal the openings. This process lasts for approximately one or two hours.

Aftercare and Recovery Following Eyelid Surgery

It is necessary to follow all post operative instructions. We advise taking a one- or two-week hiatus from work and/or school to allow for proper healing, which should resolve completely within seven to ten days. To facilitate the healing process, you should avoid any strenuous activity for approximately three weeks after the procedure.
