Which Treatments Can Help Reduce the Appearance of Acne Scars?

Intense Pulsed Light Phototherapy

This non-invasive skin rejuvenation treatment uses controlled light pulses to improve the overall tone and texture of the skin. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) phototherapy works best for treating red and brown pigmented skin imperfections and reducing the appearance of other superficial skin conditions. At Plateroti Dermatology, we use the Lumenis M22 system, which uses Optimal Pulse Technology (OPT) that requires fewer light pulses onto the skin and provides our patients with a more comfortable treatment session. We recommend using Intense Pulsed Light therapy in combination with four weeks of micro-needling treatments to treat pigmented and textured scars. Treatment plans can be customized to each patient to address their specific skin needs.

Chemical Peels

To help combat active acne and acne scars, chemical peels can be a great way to target excess oil and acne-causing bacteria more effectively than over-the-counter creams and lotions. Our dermal peels, when performed regularly, are shown to significantly reduce blackhead congestion without further aggravating this sensitive skin condition. Ask us about your peel options during your consultation!

CO2 Laser Resurfacing

At Plateroti Dermatology, we use CO2 laser resurfacing for more severe acne scarring. This treatment uses fractionated laser therapy to create microchannels in the skin and stimulates the natural collagen production. The healthy skin surrounding the microchannels keeps the healing process to the minimum. The results are a resurfacing of the skin and correction of more severe scarring. Treatments can be customized to best address your skin care needs and help you achieve your aesthetic goals.

Microneedling

This non-surgical skin rejuvenation treatment can help improve skin from the inside out by stimulating the body’s production of collagen. Microneedling creates microscopic punctures in the skin that stimulates the production of collagen and the skin’s natural healing process, which improves the overall quality of the skin. Plateroti Dermatology often uses microneedling in combination with Intense Pulsed Light phototherapy to treat acne scarring.
