BOTOX® and Dysport are an injectable treatment used to temporarily alleviate the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines, as well as wrinkles between the brows and on corners of the eyes. While many other anti-wrinkle treatments aim to add volume to the skin and increase collagen there, BOTOX® and Dysport targets an often overlooked source of wrinkle formation: muscle movement. Repeated muscle contractions can cause wrinkles in people as young as 18. Because collagen depletion over time isn’t responsible for these type of wrinkles, dermal fillers cannot help improve the way they look.
BOTOX® and Dysport are specially formulated with botulinum toxin, a substance that that temporarily relaxes the muscles. This relaxation of the muscles gives the wrinkles caused by their contractions time to smooth and soften. While a single BOTOX® or Dysport injection session can keep the muscles relaxed for four months, periodic injection sessions will be required after this period to maintain any improvements in your appearance.
